What the Housing Element is
The Housing Element is a required chapter of Truckee's General Plan that is updated every eight years. It outlines policies and programs intended to meet existing and projected housing needs across the community.
For the 2027-2035 cycle, the Town has released a public review draft and is asking residents to review the document and comment on future housing programs.
What the State requires
California requires the Housing Element to review existing housing conditions, population trends, available residentially zoned land, sites for additional residential density, and actions that could create more housing opportunities or reduce unnecessary development constraints.
That means the document can affect local conversations about density, affordability, workforce housing, land use, and how Truckee plans for future growth.
Public review dates
The Town says the public review period runs through June 17, 2026. Scheduled meetings include a May 27 community meeting, a June 2 Planning Commission review, and a June 23 Town Council review of the draft and public comments.
Residents can use the Town's Housing Element page and public comment portal for the current draft, background documents, and comment instructions.
